The Denver-based evangelical men's ministry, the Promise Keepers, announced in late April that its organization was changing from a movement to a mission.
At a press conference April 28, PK President Tom Fortson claimed American society is on a moral decline and cited acceptance of gays and reproductive rights, among other things, as proof. Fortson said his group would call on Christian men of all walks to work to gain more influence over society.
"It's time to get out of the arena and into the marketplace," Fortson said. "Our stand is not political – it's moral. We are calling Christian men to change society by living under biblical authority and teaching others to do the same."
Fortson said the group would begin producing more statements on issues such as abortion and marriage, The Denver Post reported. He added that the group would also seek to unleash armies of men to change the culture.
"It's only by turning our hearts to truth that we'll be able to win the culture war," said Fortson in a press release announcing the new direction. "That doesn't mean that we won't lose battles. That's why we're calling our constituents to go on mission. We're not taking this lightly. Real men tackle real issues and we're preparing for battle."
The PK press release states that it will sponsor events in 18 cities this year.
