Last night the Trump administration officially revoked an Obama-era guidance reminding public schools that a provision in a 1972 federal law known as Title IX prohibits discrimination against transgender students, including denying them access to the restrooms consistent with their gender identity.
President-elect Donald Trump has picked Betsy DeVos to head the U.S. Education Department. DeVos is infamous for leading the crusade to create private school vouchers, but she’s also known for her Wild West approach to charter schools – and that should worry religious-liberty watchdogs.
It’s “School Choice Week.” This event was drummed up by a coterie of sectarian interest groups and right-wing ideologues that don’t like public schools and want to replace them with taxpayer-subsidized religious and other private schools.
