We Have Some Questions For Betsy DeVos, Trump’s Pick For Education Secretary

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Betsy DeVos as his nominee for Secretary of Education, despite the fact that she has no experience with public education. Instead, DeVos has led the crusade to create taxpayer-funded private school voucher programs, which undermine our public schools. What’s more, vouchers don’t improve educational outcomes, they lack accountability and oversight, they fund schools that discriminate and violate religious freedom.

Trump’s Putting Voucher Champion Betsy DeVos In Charge Of Public Education, But Americans United Is Ready To Fight

Americans United is hard at work sounding the alarm about some of the people President-elect Donald Trump has tapped to serve in his cabinet.

Among the most troubling is Betsy DeVos, Trump’s pick to run the U.S. Department of Education. DeVos has no experience with public education. In fact, she’s hostile to the concept. DeVos has devoted much of her time over the years to prioritizing and promoting private school voucher plans.

Carson joins a host of problematic cabinet nominees.

Trump Wanted Jerry Falwell Jr. To Run The U.S. Department of Education

If there’s anyone out there who still thinks the Donald Trump presidency won’t be so bad for separation of church and state, chew on this: Trump offered the job of Education Secretary to Jerry Falwell Jr.

That’s right: Trump was prepared to turn the U.S. Department of Education over to a biblical literalist who would have been absolutely unqualified for the job.

Trump Pick To Run Education Department Has Long Focused On Transferring Taxpayer Money From Public Schools To Private Ones

President-elect Donald J. Trump has named Betsy DeVos, chair of the Alliance for School Choice, a group that promotes private school vouchers, to serve as Secretary of Education. Having the Department of Education run by a secretary who has devoted her career to privatizing public education is greatly troubling, says Americans United.

Bad Gamble: Nevada’s New ‘School Choice’ Bill May Violate State Constitution

Nevada has adopted a sweeping expansion of its school choice program, making individual savings accounts available to parents sending children to sectarian and even home schools. The Washington Post reports that parents will have $5,000 at their disposal to use on state-approved educational materials, including tuition, books and transportation. Gov.

Change Of Heart: Wisc. Voucher Pioneer Grew Disillusioned With ‘School Choice’

In 1949, five domestic house cats were introduced to tiny Marion Island, which is off the coast of South Africa, in an effort to control the local mouse population. By 1977, the cat population had ballooned to 3,400, placing the local species of birds in danger of extinction.

It’s an old story: something that was intended to solve a problem instead creates a host of new ones.

Rhee’s Misguided Mission: Former D.C. Public Schools Chief Jumps On Voucher Bandwagon

Like Anakin Skywalker turning into Darth Vader, former Washington, D.C., public schools chancellor Michelle Rhee has transitioned from an optimistic public education reformer to a jaded voucher advocate.

You may not be familiar with Rhee, but you should be because she might be affecting public education in your state, despite her thin resume.
