Donald Trump Has Been Elected President. What Now?

American voters last night decided that Donald J. Trump, a real estate developer and reality TV star with no political experience, should be the next president of the United States.

What happens next? How will Americans United’s issues be affected?

Trump’s victory is extremely troubling because during the campaign, he was often dismissive of church-state separation and meaningful religious liberty. Federal Court Denies Public School Coach’s Request To Pray With Students

Bremerton High School Assistant Football Coach Joe Kennedy Loses Round In Court

A federal court today rejected a motion by a public high school football coach in Bremerton, Wash., who sought the right to pray with students after games.

Joe Kennedy, an assistant coach at Bremerton High School, was placed on administrative leave last year after he refused to stop praying on the 50-yard line at the end of the school football games. He then decided not to reapply to be a coach this year.

U.S. Reps. Joseph P. Kennedy III (D-Mass.) and Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-Va.) on May 18 introduced legislation that would counteract some of the harmful effects of the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) and restore it to its original intent.

The “Do No Harm Act,” (H.R. 5272) would preserve RFRA’s power to protect religious liberty but also clarify that it may not be used to harm others.

Forbes’ Folly: Defeated Congressman Takes Another Potshot At Church-State Wall

Last week we reported that U.S. Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) a longtime ally of the Religious Right, had lost his primary election and thus will not be returning to the Congress.

Forbes has decided to go out with a bang. Over the weekend, he published an opinion piece in a Virginia newspaper attacking the separation of church and state -- again.

Undeniable Falsehoods: Religious Right Group Releases New Report On The ‘Persecution’ of American Christians

An up-and-coming Religious Right legal group has a new name and a new look. The Texas-based Liberty Institute has rebranded itself First Liberty, and it has inaugurated its fresh look with a newly-released report that purportedly proves the existence of a wave of hostility toward American Christians.
