AU Tells Ariz. Charter School To Stop Using Books That Promote Religious Concepts

Americans United recently sent a warning letter to an Arizona public charter school, telling officials there to stop assigning a textbook that promotes religion to students in government classes.

In a letter sent Aug. 28 to officials at Heritage Academy in Mesa, Americans United explained that a text used in the school’s mandatory senior government/U.S. Constitution class teaches students religious beliefs such as divine creation of all things, divine judgment after death and the Ten Commandments. Oh, Maryland!: Old Line State Considers Direct Funding Of Catholic Schools

Today, the Maryland legislature may vote on a bill that would provide direct funding to Catholic schools.

SB 385, which formerly proposed tax credits for tuition expenditures at religious and other private schools, was altered Saturday night by the House Ways and Means subcommittee to provide $10 million in direct grants to private schools. Read more
